KYOTO, JAPAN – Where to Eat Vegan and Gluten-Free

Kyoto is a must see in Japan, and only a 2 hour 20 minute train ride from Tokyo on the bullet train (Shinkansen). When you walk through Kyoto, you feel as if you’ve fallen back in time — countless shinto shrines and ancient Buddhist temples, classic Japanese architecture (especially in the Gion district), a rich selection of delicious Japanese food to try (and don’t forget to visit the wild monkeys in Arashiyama).

Check out our favorite restaurants below that had plenty of options for both vegan and gluten-free diners. Before visiting any restaurant, make sure to check current menus and/or ask the wait staff to make sure their policies are the same.

Uno Yukiko – Gion Soy Milk Ramen

Make absolutely sure you visit Uno Yukiko – Gion Soy Milk Ramen. Nestled in the streets of Gion, this place was one of the best parts of our trip – we came here 3 times! Their ramen noodles are house-made from rice flour and kelp, giving them a very unique slippery texture. Paired with the creamy soy-milk broth, it’s no brainer for anyone (carnivores included) when visiting Kyoto.
Also– don’t forget the soy milk ice cream for dessert.
