TOKYO, JAPAN – Where To Eat Vegan and Gluten-Free

Do yourself a favor, and book a trip to Tokyo as soon as you can! I already had very high expectations, and they were surpassed in every way. Tokyo is such a unique city with an incredible culture. Everything is clean, people are polite, the subway system is a DREAM, and there is so. much. to. do. — and SO MUCH TO EAT!

Because Tokyo is so massive, it is important to plan your stay around where you want to eat (mostly). We stayed in Roppongi, so most of the places we went to will be around there, but there are plenty of gluten-free and vegan places in other regions if you know where to look.

Gluten-Free T’s

  • Dedicated gluten-free
  • Vegan options
  • Region: Roppongi
  • Address: 7 Home-8-5-2F Roppingi, Minato City, Tokyo 106-0032
  • You don’t want to miss this place. As the name suggests, the entire menu is gluten-free so celiacs can go wild! There are quite few vegan options, and they are delicious. We got the vegan ramen, vegetable tempura, and vegan curry, and got some spring rolls to go.

Falafel Brothers

  • Gluten-free options (not marked, but the staff speak great English and know which items have it and which don’t)
  • 100% vegan
  • Region(s): Roppongi, Shibuya, Otemachi, Harajuku
  • Address (Roppongi): 5 Chome-1-11 Roppongi, Minato City, Tokyo 106-0032, Japan
  • Vegan heaven! Everything is vegan and delicious. The staff were incredibly sweet and spoke English fluently, and told us which items had gluten and which did not. While Evan (gluten-intolerant) did not have a reaction, I would advise caution to celiac’s, as cross contamination seemed likely from the restaurant set-up. However for those who are simply intolerant, this is a great option and has 4 different locations across Tokyo.

BioCafe

  • Gluten-free options (marked on menu)
  • Vegan options (ingredients marked on menu)
  • Region: Shibuya
  • Address: 〒150-0042 Tokyo, Shibuya, Udagawacho, 16−14 パティオⅠ 1F
  • There is a complimentary salad/soup bar that you can help yourself to while waiting for your food! I had the GF vegan carbonara and it exceeded my expectations. Everything felt very homemade and healthy.
